Suicide intervention training for MEIC staff

An approximate 40% increase in contacts from children and young people about suicide over the past six months has prompted MEIC staff to undergo suicide intervention training.

The staff recently took part in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Training), a two-day interactive workshop enhancing the skills of caregivers who may find themselves in a position of supporting someone attempting suicide or having suicidal thoughts.

Having completed the training the adviser advocates have further developed their abilities to support children and young people who are in a vulnerable position and considering suicide, enabling them wherever possible to create a safe environment for themselves and to reach out to the appropriate support.
