Working in partnership with the Council for Wales Voluntary Youth Service, ProMo-Cymru researched, developed, produced and piloted a training resource to inform young people of youth work as a viable career choice. This later went on to become part of the Thanks Sam youth work initiative by the Welsh Assembly Government as a recruitment pack.
These materials include a training resource handbook for youth professionals detailing all aspects of youth work, routes into the service and guiding policies and standards. Three levels of participative workshops with a variety of suggested variations to suit the needs of the target audience and an information leaflet for young people to signpost them to relevant sources of information specific to their age, circumstance and need.
Methodology: The materials were developed through focus group consultations, video interviews with young people and youth work professionals. The findings were used to develop the three levels of workshops and their adaptations. All workshops were then piloted with a variety of youth/school groups both statutory and voluntary across Wales, including re-engaging those groups and individuals from the development consultations.
