TheSprout

TheSprout

sproutTheSprout is an online information resource for young people in the Cardiff region run by ProMo-Cymru in partnership with Ifanc, the Cardiff Children and Young People’s Partnership.

ProMo-Cymru has been running TheSprout since 2007 and has created a fully interactive website that allows young people and organisations that work with them to upload their own articles, videos, photography, events and other multi-media content.  It has become a local social network made up of a diverse group of young people, writing and reading about things that matter to them.

Youth Led Editorial Groups

The key to young people using TheSprout was to get them involved by making them feel that they own the website. With this in mind, ProMo-Cymru established an Editorial Group of young people aged between 11 to 25. The Editorial Group meet monthly and are responsible for writing, reporting and promoting TheSprout. The group also make decisions on the nature of content and policies that govern the website and any design and/or technical changes.

TheSprout Model

TheSprout model was so successful at engaging with young people that it was recognised by the Welsh Assembly Government as the best model for CLIC, an All Wales project. In 2008, ProMo were commissioned to develop the national website and regional equivalents on the CLIC project.
