PiXil Vision

PiXil Vision

PiXil Vision is an intuitive touchscreen content system allowing users to view video, audio and still picture content. PiXil has been likened to a modern jukebox and is ideal for events, exhibitions and public places such as receptions and foyers.

The software behind PiXil can be run on a standard PC connected to a touchscreen monitor making it cost effective for small companies. For larger organisations, PiXil can be easily expanded to run off a central server connected to LCD screens, plasma screens and projectors. The touchscreen interface can be rebranded to include logos and colour schemes consistent with an organisation’s corporate identity.

Whereas touchscreen technology is now commonplace with modern gadgets, back in 2002 when ProMo-Cymru developed PiXil Vision, it was innovative and purchased by leading and varied organisations such as the BBC, Blackwood Miners Institute and Caerphilly County Council.

Prior to the uptake of fast speed broadband internet and video sharing sites such as YouTube, PiXil grew out of demand from people producing digital content with no dedicated means of distribution. In 2003 ProMo-Cymru launched the Golden Pixil awards supported by the Welsh Development Agency (WDA).

Golden PiXil awarded excellence in independent digital media production. ProMo-Cymru were overwhelmed with a high standard of work from non-professionals wanting to present their work to a wider audience as well as work produced by community projects, schools and colleges.

PiXil is still in use today and is being utilised by ProMo-Cymru and the BBC to distribute archive video material of Ebbw Vale and Blaenau Gwent at the Ebbw Vale Institute.
