Ebbw Vale Institute

Ebbw Vale Institute

The Ebbw Vale Institute (EVI) is a Grade II listed building and the oldest institute in Wales dating back to 1849. After many years as an abandoned building that saw the EVI fall in to a state of disrepair, ProMo-Cymru undertook an ambitious regeneration project that saw the building restored to its former glory and refurbished with modern facilities.

The region in which EVI is based required investment and regeneration in order to rejuvenate the area.  Working with Blaenau Gwent Council and supported by the local community, ProMo-Cymru received funding from the Heads of the Valleys Project to refurbish the Institute and make it the central point of the local community.

ProMo-Cymru has developed Ebbw Vale Institute to provide the following facilities:

With this investment in upgrading EVI with state of the art facilities, ProMo-Cymru recognises the importance of preserving the region’s history. With this in mind ProMo-Cymru has teamed up with the BBC to gather archive video material of Ebbw Vale and Blaenau Gwent. The archive material will be available to visitors via ProMo-Cymru’s touchscreen PiXil Vision system.

Ebbw Vale Institute is open to everyone in the community. For more information please visit the Ebbw Vale Institute website www.ebbwvaleinstitute.org or contact a member of staff on 01495 70 8022 or info@ebbwvaleinstitute.org.
