theSprout.co.uktheSprout Launch

Less than a week to go until the Official Launch of www.theSprout.co.uk, which will take place on Tuesday 4 November at Clwb Ifor Bach

Nearly half of the tickets have now been allocated, so those that haven't yet returned their completed application forms (available from ryan@theSprout.co.uk or 07515 566518) need to do so ASAP.

Remember this is a FREE event with live music, food and comedy, and is a celebration of not just the website, but all young people in Cardiff. Those coming will also need to arrive early to guarantee entry, because to ensure a busy event (and to accommodate the inevitable no-shows) there will be more tickets allocated than numbers allow. We look forward to seeing you down the front.

CLICCLIC - The National Advice and Information Service for Wales

ProMo-Cymru are proud to announce that we have recently been awarded CLIC the National Information and Advice communications project for the Welsh Assembly Government.

ProMo-Cymru will be working with close partners, Burning Red and ARAD to develop an innovative and effective project.

Over the next four years we aim to create local – regional – national information, news and advice portals for young people in Wales both on-line and off-line. Utilising multi-media to share young peoples ideas, CLIC will be for young people with content created and updated by young people and the organisations that support their activities.

We will work with each local authority area and Children and Young Peoples Partnerships to become a partner in CLIC.

The CLIC project will provide support to develop their on-line and off-line inclusion at whatever point in their development they find themselves.

We will work hand in hand with partners and ensure any developments to date are continued and local sites keep their local identity. Developments are to include standard information features, multi-media content and provide relevant local news, events, activities. Areas without specific youth information websites will be supported in their development through strategic partnerships.

The CLIC project will support the development of Youth-led Editorial Groups that will be developed locally and nationally with young people as the leading force in production of information, ensuring inclusion, equality and opportunities are our main areas of focus.

Building and establishing links between information and advice provisions and networks across Wales through the local-regional-national web portals we will enable the progress and achievements of information provisions within every region of Wales to be publicised directly to young people.

Through these networks we will collate and share resources, identifying areas of duplication and the potential for partnership working. Our aim is to build upon the quality information work already carried out within each area to create an "all Wales" best practice resource with a developed quality standards and training.

Young people need information from quality reliable sources, relevant, up-to-date, facts, explanations, guidance through peer-to-peer experience sharing, how and where they can access support in their local area. This should be delivered in ways that appeal to them, youth-led communication using multi-media, interactive and design technologies.

Facilitating the development of youth-led localised multi-media platforms using events, activities and news as tools for engagement, we encourage young people to become regular visitors and it is through these methods that we aim to establish CLIC as a localised information resource familiar to young people, established and trusted when important issues arise.

In partnerships across Wales we will collectively empower young people with access to knowledge, enabling them to make better informed choices in their lives.

Demonstrating Success

Continuing our work with ARAD consultancy for the Welsh Assembly Government in the development of a “Demonstrating Success Toolkit” we recently worked with a group from the Cwmbran Centre for Young People.

The six young people that participated were very forthcoming with their opinions and sharing their experiences in identifying the types of outcomes and progress that we hope the Demonstrating Success toolkit will be able to identify in time. They also gave practical suggestions on the methods, activities and exercises that could be implemented in measuring and monitoring these outcomes. The group and the centre will be continuing their involvement in the project over the next three years, providing their feedback when we return in a few months with some initial pilot materials.

EVIEbbw Vale Institute Update

ProMo-Cymru is looking forward to working in partnership with three clients who intend to take up office space at the EVI. Dennis Powell is a client who we are working in conjunction with, to bring a major Art exhibition to the Blaenau Gwent Valley in early 2009.

This Project will run for four weeks and will see major Welsh Artists Exhibit along side up & coming local talent. Dennis also intends to take up office space in the building to nurture and develop local talent and run an arts business.

Promo-Cymru clients Martin Williams & Phil Edwards are also taking up office space at the EVI in order to run their Promotion/Events company.

Martin in particular is a long term Promo-Cymru client, and we've been working with Phil for around the last three months. Promo-Cymru has already started developing projects with the duo and have several events planned for December & the Christmas period.

As well as taking residency within the building Martin & Phil looking to run Shows and develop projects at the Venue on a long-term basis.

ProMo-Cymru is developing ideas for December with BGBC's youth team and welcome developmental ideas from any organisations in the area. Promo-Cymru also looks forward to working in partnership with Communities First & EVAD and furthering our relationship with the Local Residents Association.

The internal works being carried out to the EVI are now back on track. The asbestos removal throughout the building has now been finished.

The building work has now resumed to develop the phase one re-development directly into phase two, with the ground floor of the building hopefully being open for initial projects and activities.

Anyone interested in the project itself, using the facilities in the EVI, which will include:

- Meeting spaces with full media facilities
- Dance Studio
- Conference and catering facilities
- Café
- Band Rehearsal and Recording facilities

Thanks SAMCould you be the next Sam?

ProMo-Cymru has worked with the Council for Wales Voluntary Youth Services (CWVYS) to produce an inaugural youth work career pack for the Welsh Assembly Government.

Titled “Could you be the next Sam?”, the career pack was developed to raise awareness of youth work as well as to promote youth work as a viable career option. It was launched alongside a brand new website named Youth Work Wales to celebrate the Wales Youth Work Week from 1-7 November.

Together with CWVYS, ProMo-Cymru spent a six-month period from October 2007 to March 2008 to compile the career pack and the development process involved in-depth consultations with young people to determine the range and format of information to be included.

The end product is complete with comprehensive information, interactive workshops that can be delivered to suit varying abilities and handouts to appeal to young people.

Designed to be used in a youth and education setting, the pack is a vital tool to inform young people about the nature of youth work, the role and function of youth workers and to ultimately encourage them explore career opportunities in youth work.

The career pack, available in both English and Welsh, can be downloaded at:
