ProMail September
Welcome to September issue of ProMail. There have been some changes here at ProMo-Cymru and sadly we have to say goodbye and good luck to some of our staff.
After seven years Marcus Simpson, development officer, is set to follow his ambition to work in Events Management, Sarah Vaughan is set to pursue a new career and our Lithuanian volunteer, Vaida Andrijauskaite, has finished her placement and now starting her MA course at UWIC.
ProMo-Cymru’s Management board and staff would like to thank them for all the efforts during their time at ProMo-Cymru and wishing success in all their endeavours.

Demonstrating Success
Continuing on from last years pilot project, ProMo-Cymru and ARAD consultancy are working with the Welsh Assembly Government in the development of a “Demonstrating Success Toolkit” over the next three years.
Young people gain a variety of personal and interpersonal skills through their involvement with youth projects and organisations, gaining more confidence, getting along with people, becoming motivated to make choices about their lives etc. It is this “value” that the toolkit will eventually measure, how young people have developed personally through their involvement with a youth organisation, how they have grown as an individual.
ARAD are working with a number of organisations and professionals across Wales to identify existing measurements and gain their suggestions. ProMo-Cymru are working directly with groups of young people to ensure that their views are also at the heart of the developing project.
A group of young people that were engaged with the pilot project last year met recently to discuss the direction of the project and help to create a young person friendly document that explains our intentions with the project. The next group we will be working with are from Cwmbran.
The toolkit of materials will need to be adaptable to suit every situation within the context of working with young people and should be easy to use and monitor. During 2008 a number of key areas have been identified alongside organisations to help develop the materials and act as “pilot centres” to measure the impact of the work that they carry out.

EVI
The EVI project is one of ProMo-Cymru’s major long-term developments.
ProMo-Cymru are working towards an initial opening date for the building where the public will be able to access services, shows and events from the start of December. Due to unforeseen circumstances building work was temporarily delayed, but we are glad to report that the renovations are now back on track and we are tirelessly working towards an opening date. ProMo-Cymru are looking forward to working in the building and are planning an official launch of the project for early 2009.
The Building will also be the host for the first major gallery exhibition of its kind to take place in the Blaenau Gwent area. We have been working with several funding bodies and Dennis Powell Art in order to bring a new kind of cultural experience to the area. The Exhibition will feature nationally renowned artists along side up and coming local talent, and will run for a four-week period. The Gallery Project will take place in April 2009, anyone wishing to access more information or interested in getting involved can contact our Senior Development Officer Julian Gardner, on 07970 707209.
ProMo-Cymru continues to work closely with our client base, and there have been quite a few successes of late, these have led to several clients setting up cultural industry businesses. We are happy to announce that two of these will be based at the EVI where we will continue to nurture and support the growth of these ventures as they develop into fully fledged businesses.
Many other activities will take place at the Ebbw Vale Institute, so keep checking the ProMo-Cymru website as information will be posted there regularly.
Also look out for our activities/rate card which will be uploaded to the website in the coming month.
As our partnerships with Blaenau Gwent County Council & HOV goes from strength to strength we are looking forward to also working closely with other partner organisations such as: The Princess Trust, Dennis Powell Art, and Business Eye, and also strengthen other existing relations with Communities First, N&G and EVAD. We believe that working in partnership is the key to the future success of the EVI project, as well as the economic re-growth of the area and the cultural industries based within. We also look forward to continue working with the local residents to ensure that the EVI is a project that everyone can be a part of and a building we can all be proud of.
