Funky DragonFunky Dragon

Working in partnership with ARAD consultancy, ProMo-Cymru will be undertaking a review of the national youth forum for young people in Wales.

The main purpose of this work will be to work together with Funky Dragon to look at best practice and recommendations for further development and improvement.

Funky Dragon gives young people in Wales the opportunity to raise issues at a national level, ensuring that their voices are heard by the decision makers in Wales. They were the first organisation in the UK to have young people under 18 years of age actively participating as members of their management board.

Working closely with the young people participating in the forum an evaluation exercise will be carried out over the next few months with this flagship organisation. A report will be produced for the Welsh Assembly Government.

Youth Works For YouYouth Works 4 You

Do you know why youth work is important? Do you know what skills and experience you need to become a youth worker or that being a youth worker can be a career for life?

Over the past few months CWYVS and ProMo-Cymru have been developing a pack of materials and workshops designed to answer these questions. The aim of the pack is to encourage young people into considering youth work as a life-changing, well-paid career choice with training at every level.

These pilot materials have been developed through consultations with young people and youth professionals in a number of different settings. They offer a range of information to equip anyone working with young people with the tools to deliver an interesting workshop that signposts them towards the various routes into becoming a youth worker.

At this stage we are piloting the materials through a number of groups and organisations, gaining their feedback and assessing their effectiveness. We will be reporting back to the Welsh Assembly Government at the end of February 2008 to let them know how we got on.

Demonstrating Success?

Following on from last years pilot project, ARAD consultancy, ProMo-Cymru, Dr Deborah Watson of the University of Bristol and Carl Emery of Resolution First will be working for the Welsh Assembly Government in the development of a “Demonstrating Success Toolkit” over the next three years.

We will be working towards developing a set of indicators and materials that measure the progress of young people.

Young people gain a variety of personal and interpersonal skills through their involvement with youth projects, schools and other settings, gaining more confidence, getting along with people, becoming motivated to make choices about their lives etc. It is this “value” that we are hoping to measure, how young people have developed personally through their involvement with a youth organisation and how they have grown as an individual.

The toolkit of materials will need to be adaptable to suit every situation within the context of youth work and should be easy to use and monitor. During 2008 we will be identifying a number of key areas and organisations to help develop these materials and act as “pilot centres” using the materials to measure the impact of the work that they carry out.

Beth yw’r gwahaniaeth? - What's the difference?

Animation Competition

It is a national competition organised by Croeso to create a series of hard-hitting short animations to challenge prejudice. You just need to come up with the idea – we will work with you and leading professionals in the animation sector in Wales to put it on screens around Wales.

The winning idea will be seen in the main cinemas around Wales. The two runners up will also be developed for use across the web.

The theme is something that gets people talking about prejudice, diversity and equality, something that challenges prejudice and hatred, something that helps people feel good about being different.

The only rules about entries are:

- The closing date for entries is Friday, 22 February 2008
- You must be under 26 on the closing date to take part.
- There must be enough in your entry to enable the judges to understand your idea but you can do it on paper or your computer

Roath Real Food Market

Saturday, March 1st, 2008 from 9.30am - 1.00pm

Front of the car park of the Mackintosh Sports Club on the corner of Keppoch Street and Plasnewydd Place in Roath (just off City Road, across from The Gate arts centre) and will run EVERY SATURDAY morning from then on.

The Roath Market will aim for the same combination of a wide choice of delicious fresh, Welsh and (some) certified organic food, all raised or made by the stallholders themselves, with the same friendly atmosphere which has made Riverside Market such a success over the past nine years. We have more than 25 stalls confirmed for the launch on March 1st (some favourites from Riverside Market but plenty of new faces as well!), and there will be music, juggling, and plenty of tasting going on to get everyone in the local food mood. Fair Trade tea and coffee will be available and the Mackintosh bar will be open...and hopefully it will be a plastic bag-free zone!
