Alway Reps: 'You Don’t Have To Be Posh To Be Privileged'
Monday 27th February 2006
On Thursday, March 30 an event ‘You Don’t Have To Be Posh To Be Privileged’ took place at Alway Primary School in Newport, which was organised by a group of local young people ‘Alway Reps’ with the support of ProMo-Cymru. The main idea behind the event was to let young people have their say on regeneration strategy for Alway.
The event was a success: ‘Alway Reps’ arrived in a stretched limo. About 150 local residents attended the event, where they viewed the work of the youth forum for the past six months and also filled in pledge forms as a promise to do their part to improve the community.
Local young people got together and organised a youth forum in September and came up with the name Alway Reps (Alway representing) for themselves to show that their role is to represent the views of the young people in the community, which they do through meetings, consultations and video production.
